More Than Beans
Great coffee may begin with beans, but Higher Groundz has a different story, a unique story which unfolds in an unusual location - a church basement.
Time out - Before you let all those automatic thoughts stream through your mind, allow me to interrupt. We’re not talking a minor makeover. We’re talking a $750,000 reconstruction project which now offers you a full-scale, state-of-the-art coffee and tea house with a unique exterior and a gorgeous interior offering you an experience beyond expectation.
Our Starting Point
A traditional church dining area complete with folding chairs, a concrete floor, and concrete block walls. It’s a great reminder of how Higher Groundz emerged out of a simple church basement.
Renovation Underway
Notice anything different? Better yet, notice anything the same? New walls, new floors, new bathrooms. New kitchen specifically designed for our coffee shop. It was a major undertaking.
Now Serving Great Drinks to All People
Following a stunning transformation, we served our first customer on July 9, 2020. With that moment, the vision came alive and Higher Groundz began to be a place where community leads to new beginnings, joy, hope, love, and excitement.

As church, preschool, and café, we offer worship opportunities along with opportunities to connect through our activities. Our café is a unique place which offers you great coffee and tea, and gives you an opportunity to step inside our doors.
Our Mission
With over 33,000 vehicles passing our location every day (we actually counted), we’re on a mission to reach out beyond just coffee and tea, to reach out to hearts that are aching, to those who feel lost and alone, and to those looking for a place to call home and where they can connect with friends. A café in a church may sound unusual, but we’re here for you.

“Where flavor is art.” It could merely be a byline, but, in our case, we’re serious about art, serious about artistic coffee. Our employees are specially trained in the arts of the barista because we believe in art, because you deserve more than just something in a cup.
